Curiosity

In 1998, French designer, Gwenael Nicolas, who is dealing with product, interior design and architecture, founded Curiosity. He collaborated with various companies including Nissan, Lexus, Louis Vuitton, Nintendo, Agape, Swarovski, Issey Miyake, Uniqlo, to name just a few.His work has attracted international attention through a number of conceptual installations, such as “D-day” at the Pompidou Center in Paris, “LIGHT-LIGHT” in Tokyo Wonder (Milan 2008 and Lexus museum in Tokyo (2009), .SWAROVSKI CRYSTAL PALACE IN MILAN SALONE 2010.He describes himself as a “choregraphe of space” as his work concentrate on “the art of encounter” .Knowing is not necessarely understanding, an information can be shared but an experience has to be encountered to be fully apprehended. So after impressionnisme, minimalisme, modernisme and other …ism we enter the age of « expérimentalisme ».The recognizable characteristics of Gwenael Nicolas’ designs are translucency, emotional coloring and attractive forms. If you use his products or encounter his spaces, you quickly realize that his designs are not simply about obvious beauty but that considerable thought has also gone into their functionality. The designs originate from a storyboard with subjects as central focus to which he always incorporates an element of discovery and unpredictability. After receiving several awards for product design and architecture (AIA), Nicolas recently received the ku/kan prize 2009, the most prestigious interior design award in japan for the first time presented to a foreigner.Recent projects include the “LOUIS VUITTON”, Ginza Namiki in Tokyo with a new watch and jewellery concept, the interior concept of the new “BERLUTI” boutiques, and “MOYNAT” “ shop and Art direction, a traditional trunk maker revived by Mr. Bernard Arnault in Paris.
